Movie: "The Great Debaters" Wednesday and Thursday

In Class: Today and tomorrow we will be viewing "The Great Debaters" a movie starring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. This movie ties in with our two day classroom debate we have after viewing an academic film entitled "The Sentencing of Bill Thomas."

Homework: Review the study guide for the Nine Week Post Test this Friday.

Test on Government in Georgia

In Class: Today the students took the Government Test. Afterward they began work on a worksheet for the Nine Week Post Test this Friday.

Homework: Finish and review the worksheet begun in class today for the Nine Week Post Test on Friday.

Note: Tomorrow and Thursday we will watch the movie "The Great Debators" with Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. Permission slips were sent home Monday (the movie is PG 13) and must be returned in order for the student to view the film.

In Class: Today we reviewed the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the Georgia government for our test tomorrow.

Trial of Bill Thomas

In Class: Today we continued with our debate on the sentencing of Bill Thomas (a video we viewed yesterday).

Homework: Review items 1-10 on the Judicial Worksheet we did in class from the textbook and from the Power Point presentation for the Quiz tomorrow.

Video: The trial of Bill Thomas

In Class: The students will view a video on the trial of Bill Thomas, a young man. At the end, before the Judge makes his decision, the video ends . The students then will write their opinion of how they feel, should Bill get probation or go to prision. We then split into two groups and each side was able to offer their opinion on why they voted the way they did.

In Class: Today the students viewed a Power Point on the Judicial Branch of state government. They had a graphic organizer they used to take notes.

Homework: Begin reviewing for our quiz this Friday on the Judicail system.

In Class: Today the students viewed a Power Point on the structure of the Executive Branch of the Georgia General Assembly. This includes the various branches that come under Executive jurisdiction. The students took notes as they viewed the film.

In Class: Today the students viewed a Power Point on the Executive Branch of state government while taking notes on a worksheet. After the presentation they used their textbook to locate the formal and informal powers of the governor.

In Class: Today the students took a Quiz on the Legislative Branch of government in the Georgia Legislature. They then completed a worksheet using pages 537-538 in their textbook covering the Committee System.

In Class: Today the students used the notes they took yesterday to complete a Venn Diagram on the differences between the House of Representatives and the Senate in the Georgia Assembly. We then discussed their findings.
